Derel’s impact resonates through his current service as a Township Committeeman and his four-year tenure on the Neptune Zoning Board of Adjustments, where his decisions help shape the developmental landscape of his community with precision and foresight.
As a former educator, Derel worked to ensure his students were equipped with the knowledge of the latest innovative technologies, Financial Accounting practices, Microsoft Office Suites, and other professional programs and systems; preparing them for a growing competitive workforce.
After graduating from Brookdale Community College, Derel went on to earn his Bachelors Degree from Seton Hall University.
In 2018, Derel received the ‘Outstanding Humanitarian Award’ by Project Re-Direct, a youth services organization. In 2019, he was named ‘Citizen of the Year’ by the Ocean Township Police Department. Later in 2022, he received the ‘Community Rising Star Award’ from the Vin Gopal Civic Association.
His academic foundation undoubtedly sharpened his analytical prowess and strategic thinking. As a brother of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, Member of the NAACP, National Organization for Women, among others, he embodies principles of honesty and transparency, inclusion and community engagement.
His role as a special advisor to U.S. Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman underscores his expertise and influence in navigating complex political landscapes, further solidifying his commitment to serving the public with good intentions and integrity.
